We went to Adelaide today and as we were driving through Auburn on the way home we were discussing whether or not we’d call in for a local craft beer at Hop & Vine when we spotted a group of mates sitting outside under the verandah. Needless to say that was enough convincing and we u-bolted back there for a refreshing ale. It doesn’t take much, it’s become a regular drop in on our way home from Adelaide for a Miss Molly Malone grape cider or if it’s winter, a Gimp mocha stout. What better way to wash off the hustle & bustle of the city, right?
So, Hop & Vine. It’s the outlet for Clare Valley Brewing‘s craft beer & cider masterpieces and also gorgeous wine from Good Catholic Girl Wines & Jeanneret Wines. It’s a quaint little place nestled in the main street of Auburn. Quirky; thanks to the clever eye of Julie Barry. Welcoming; thanks to the gorgeous girls, Grady Stanley, Molly Bruhn and, Rae Edwards. Hip; because of locally crafted beer, stout, cider & wine. And totally fun because it doesn’t matter who is there, everyone joins in the fun. They even make tv shows there 😉
Open from 10am – 5pm daily, it’s definitely one of the places to be seen in the Clare Valley. Most definitely in Auburn. Having been there on more than one occasion…. ok, a lot of occasions, i can honestly say one of the things i love most, aside from what’s put in your glass, is the way locals and tourists mingle as though they’ve known each other for years before stepping foot in the door. Maybe that’s just me because i do love a chat but once you do step foot in the door it’s obligatory you try one of these…
At just $10 it’s the perfect way to sample (and a damn good sized sample it is) what Hop & Vine is all about. My recommendation is Miss Molly, The Gimp stout, Bulls Eye A.P.A & the Monkey’s Uncle Red Ale, but they’re all good, even the recently released, Welease Wodger wheat beer which is also on tap. Save Miss Molly for last if it’s a hot day, she’s very refreshing. If you buy a carton of Miss Molly to take home, and i challenge you to not, mix her with a Fireball Whiskey. Trust me, you’ll think all your winter comfort heavens have arrived at once. All i’m going to say is, apple crumble in a glass 😀
It’s not unusual to see several groups scattered throughout Hop & Vine. Couples on a weekend wine tour, groups of mates, or friends meeting for a couple of pints before heading across the road to the Rising Sun for dinner. The latter will definitely make an appearance on this blog so no tagging today, the spotlight shall remain on Hop & Vine. If you’re a wine lover reading this and thinking you’d probably give it a miss because it’s all about beer & cider, STOP right there with that thought because, also available by the glass and for sale by the bottle is, Jeanneret Wines and Good Catholic Girl wines. If you haven’t tried either of these you are in for a very pleasant surprise. My favourite of the Jeanneret range is the Big Fine Girl riesling because it’s just like me, A Big Fine Girl! Whatever your preference, there’s a great variety on offer at Hop & Vine, they even have a cafe quality coffee machine for the responsible driver. So put it on your list of things to do in Clare Valley and give yourself plenty of time to sit, relax and enjoy all that Hop & Vine has to offer.
Yours truly (centre) enjoying a pint of Monkey’s Uncle while the girls stick to their beer flights!
